It uses the CBROM command-line tool to hook its extension into the BIOS. The next time the system boots, the BIOS extension adds additional code to the hard drive's master boot record (MBR) in order to infect the winlogon.exe / winnt.exe processes on Windows XP and 2003 / Windows 2000 before Windows boots.

• The New version of Award CBROM.EXE can be use to extract VGA, Net boot rom.etc. The command of the extraction is just like releasing BIOS. Simply just replace the word 'release' to 'extract'. For example, to extract VGA and net BIOS, please type: cbrom 6144V23.bin /vga extract cbrom 6144V23.bin /others 1800:0 extract Note that.
• It's pretty clear that cbrom 1.98 is older than the BIOS you want to mod. If you download older BIOS versions (example 01), you'll see that the microcodes module is shown and the actual microcodes displayed at CBROM. I know there is a newer CBROM v1.99 which may work but I cannot find it anywhere. EDIT: Found it but I don't see any difference.
• To modify the BIOS image, this malicious program uses the cbrom.exe utility (by Phoenix Technologies) incorporated into its resources. Using this utililty, the Trojan horse injects its module hook.rom as an ISA BIOS ROM into the image. Then Trojan.Bioskit.1 issues a command to its another driver to reflash the BIOS using the updated file.

• the bugs fixed version 1.25 beta awbdedit from – bios.rom.by/ROMutils/Award/awdbedit/re1_25.zip – is still buggy, though it works well when adding option rom in pci-slots on award bioses which show problems using CBROM!!
  I sucessfully added a via pci sata rom file to a ASUS P4S8X firmware bios and can not boot directly from sata hdds attached to pci controller, which previous didn’t work.

• Hi! I have Insyde BIOS and I need to get it unlocked. I need other settings. If you know, Insyde is locked with some options, but I need others, to change to AHCI to install Mac OS X Lion (iAtkos moddified). I have an HP g6 2002sm laptop.

  • My bad. It was because of “Event Analyst” from Dorian soft. Uninstalled it and now everything is fine.

• Are there any good tools for modding the BIOS in a Gateway desktop using the Intel DG965OT motherboard from about 2008? I would like to upgrade the E6300 Core 2 Duo CPU to a Q6600 Core 2 quad CPU and I think that may require some custom bios settings. The MB datasheet indicates the board supports Core 2 quad processors with a 1066 MHz FSB.
